You are about to participate in a historical first. For the next 14 days, we are embarking on a process of discovering what your nation is really about, while building the creative courage it takes to create visual experiences (which we teach about in our course). You don’t need to be a visual artist to participate. You don’t have to be “creative”. You don’t even need to know what your nation is yet. Repeat after me:

You ready yet? Here we go!
Prompt of Comic Proportions: [Time to completion: 10 minutes]
Have you experienced your Moment of Truth? One that causes you to stop what you’re doing and pursue something you believe in? That is the siren song of every nation-builder, whether they’re using entrepreneurship to support their cause or some other model.
Your prompt for today is to spend 10 minutes creating a comic with three frames. The first frame shows what it was like before your Moment of Truth. The second frame shows the Moment of Truth. The final frame shows what it was like (or will be like) after the Moment of Truth.
If you haven’t had a Moment of Truth yet, imagine what yours might be if you were to have one, and create your comic out of that.

Our apprentice Jen is going through these prompts with you. She’s not a designer, photographer, or film-maker. She doesn’t even have a nation (yet). But she has recently heard the siren song — her Moment of Truth (and it’s not about a horse named Pete).
What is it about? We’re not telling. See if you can figure it out over the next 14 days.
Your comic probably won’t be this extravagant…Jen got a little excited. Feel free to follow your enthusiasm, but setting a timer for 10 minutes might help you not make a big deal out of it.

Now look what you made me do!

FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!! Oh my gosh, David. I love your doodles, David. Your work makes me happy beyond words.

I love it!!! You, my friend, have some hidden art inside you. And wow…it is so compelling. It really makes me love you guys and what you do.
Ha! Thanks, I love to paint.. draw.. but I’m not gifted in the “cartoon” arena. It was an enjoyable experience stepping outside of my comfort zone and drawing a simple scene, so thank you for the prompt. I resisted the urge to sketch a realistic scene… it would have taken me much longer than ten minutes. lol. I’m so inspired by your work, what you guys do, how you are on a mission to conquer your dreams and catapulting others to do the same. Kudos.
Here’s my Comic attempt, which ties in with your Story a bit, Sarah…
HAHAHAHAHA! Oh my gosh…this is cracking me up!!! Thank you for this, Jeff. The rest. Of the story.
Here’s what I created yesterday:
Hahaha! I love it! Yay for you Christyna!
Hooray for my first comic strip! Might be my new career path! ; ) hehe Such a fun prompt!

Tis AWESOME, Sarah! (And yay for WDS!)
I so totally misspelled your name. Sorry…reflex.
[...] then Monday, we started this Show and Don’t Tell at A Small Nation, and I made [...]
I loved doing this even though I feel like the moment I chose is a long time ago and there are many moments since. And the art is just stick figures.
But the process… just letting myself do SOMETHING. Fantastic. And realizing that this moment I drew really was an important turning point that set me on the path to where I am now.
Looking forward to the next projects. Thanks.
Yay for somethings, Jo! Good for you!
